During a recent review of our long-running Port Service Agreement with Konecranes Port Services in Düsseldorf, the Paterson Simons team took time out to look at the latest crane simulation technology deployed in the Konecranes Gottwald training centre.
The multi-screen simulator uses multiple screens to accurately recreate the 180 degree view from the crane cab. There is a camera tracking head movements which adjusts the peripheral vision in all directions based on changes in head position. The set up includes a cab seat bed that reproduces the movement of the crane and the controls and in cab displays are those from a working crane. The end result is extremely realistic and the extensive training programmes allow a ramp up to loading and unloading scenarios with increasing levels of difficulty.
Konecranes has a smaller laptop based version (best used with a projector) which can pack into a travel case for use offsite on request from both customers and Konecranes Frontline services.
