The Paterson Simons team have successfully commissioned and offloaded two Konecranes 16W Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGs) at West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) in Onne, Nigeria.
This adds to the existing fleet of 18 RTGS at WACT.
The terminal now has 20 Konecranes RTGs. 16 of these cranes were solely offloaded and commissioned by the Paterson Simons engineering team. Paterson Simons provides premium offload, commissioning, endurance testing, warranty support, and ongoing service support to Konecranes.
The RTGs have a lifting capacity of 41 tons each and are the Fuel Saver option, which cuts fuel consumption dramatically – providing flexibility, without compromising crane performance.
Offloading the RTGs involves:
- Removing the special lashings and protective measures for the sea voyage from the cranes
- Jacking the cranes up to align the bogies from their transport position
- Starting up the cranes on board
- Maneuvering the cranes on board prior to the ship’s gear lifting them onto the quay
- Maneuvering the landed cranes from the quayside to the yard
Commissioning the RTGs involves:
- Assembly of light steel structure removed for safe transport
- Testing all functions
- Handover of the crane to the customer
- Endurance testing
