In a bid to foster a healthy and happy workplace, Paterson Simons & Co. (Africa) Ltd (PSAL) dedicated the last week of May to promoting mental health well-being among its employees. The week-long initiative, driven by the commitment and enthusiasm of staff from various subsidiaries, was spearheaded by the Group Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager, Bright Korda.
Throughout the week, PSAL engaged our various teams in a series of empowering activities. Daily mental health awareness posters were distributed, sparking conversations and increasing awareness about mental health issues.
One of the highlights of the week was a seminar on mental health and stress management in the workplace. Facilitated by clinical psychology experts, the seminar provided valuable insights and strategies for managing stress. The teams had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in one-on-one counselling sessions with the experts, fostering a deeper understanding of mental health issues and promoting personal well-being.
Looking ahead, PSAL is planning an online talk titled “Building Resilience & Coping with Stress.” The aim is to provide our teams with further tools and strategies to manage stress effectively.
The week concluded with team-building activities and social events at some subsidiaries. The final day featured indoor games and a “bring and share” event, allowing staff to socialize and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. Top management’s participation and a keynote speech highlighted the company’s dedication to creating a positive and supportive workplace.
PSAL’s Mental Health Awareness Week was a testament to the company’s commitment to supporting well-being and fostering a healthy work environment.
