2020 saw major investments in cargo handling equipment in Nigeria with new Konecranes reach stackers, empty container handlers, heavy lift forklifts and Terberg tractors joining what is already the largest fleet of mobile cargo handling equipment in the country.
Recent deliveries of mobile container handling equipment to major terminal operators in Nigeria took place against a background of major new investment in the port sector as Nigeria seeks to increase cargo handling capacities in both Apapa and Tin Can ports in the Lagos area. This is along with major improvements to facilities through the Eastern Corridor via Onne Port.
These investments included the largest single reach stacker delivery in Nigeria of recent times in terms of units delivered. Ten of the new reach stackers were the Konecranes Liftace SMV 4532 TCE5s. All the reach stackers have been equipped with Cummins engines, a new OPTIMA cabin for outstanding visibility and comfort, which are quality core components for high stability, safe handling and long-lasting performance. Safety is enhanced even further with semi-automatic fire suppression systems, an essential feature in the demanding working conditions in which the lift trucks will operate.
